Our home EYAL fixture brought us another very comfortable victory - again exceeding the seven hundred points tally with the final scores reading  Chelmsford 724, Basildon 538, Norwich 493, Cambridge 398, SS Athletics / Enfield & Haringey (composite team) 278 and West Suffolk 168.  The later our hosts for the next meeting on 2nd June.

Maximum points came from many events - and indeed an early lead was taken from the opening track events – in the hurdles. The under 15 girls had Chelsea Clarke and Josephine Walsh pairing up with the former also recording wins in the high and long jump events. At under 17 level Amelie Scott and Sophie Catchpole won over the hurdles whilst the under 17 men's pairing of Harry Lee and Marcus Fazackerley and under 15 boys with George Dixon and Jake Read also achieved this distinction.

Middle distance events brought a glut of maximum points. The under 13 girls had success over both 800 and 1500, Orla Martin and Georgia Matthews over two laps and Beatrix Cooke and Isla Kehoe in the 1500. These performances were also achieved by the under 15`s via Ezra Harrold and Ava King, and then Erin Kelly and Francessca Philipps. The under 17`s took full points from the 800 through Daisy Stollery and Niamh Roberts whilst the under 15 boys won both `A` and `B` over the longer distance via Jacob Parrott and Joe Delaney.

Points kept accumulating on the track with numerous wins over 200 whilst four  victories came in the relays.

Of course one must not forget the field events and perhaps the best came from the under 15 boys as Joshua Bababole won the hammer reaching 53.99m. Under 17`s newcomer Jack Hignell won the high jump with 1.90 whist Charlie Pymer ensured maximum points as did Daniel Brown and Srephen Adesina in the shot putt. This event also saw full points from the under 15 girls - Monica Malagala and Olivia Mullineaux.

After Sundays fixtures the league table sees Chelmsford leading with 12 points - and 1434 match points 2nd are Havering on 12 (1356),  3d Shaftesbury  on 12  (1334) and 4th Dacorum 12  (1262). Oddly scanning the remaining fixtures we do not meet any of these  three and indeed they in turn are not paired together. With this odd arrangement all could finish the season unbeaten and on 24 league points - thus match points would become a deciding factor, hence the importance of contesting ALL events  `A  and  `B`

Can we find any pole vaulters !!!   Not an easy event but could possibly be decisive.

The EMAC ( Eastern Masters AC ) league comprises of separate men & women teams ( V35+, V50+ & V60+) with 4 matches run in the evenings over the summer. After the 4 matches are completed, the first two clubs in each of the 3 divisions, automatically make the final & the best two 3rd places also make the final.

Wednesday night 1st May, was the first match held at Chelmsford. A large number of CAC athletes were injured or ill, so that both men & women’s CAC teams were badly depleted.

Chelmsford men finished 13 points from 2nd place, so a strong next 3 match finishes could see CAC men get into the final again. However, the ladies CAC team was devastated by so many injuries & illnesses, so their job to make up the 74 points is more daunting.

CAC men are strong every year with the discus/shot throws trio of Roger Skedd (also; High jump & 4x100m), David Bauer & Geoff Tyler with near maximum points. High points performances were made by: Nigel Gardner Long jump/High jump/100m, Stuart Bazley Long jump/100m, Shirley Quinn discus/shot put, Laura Durn on her CAC debut 800m/3,000m/high jump & Nicola Hewitt long jump/100m/shot/discus.

Any good team performance depends on athletes competing in all events, so while there were many gaps, the following stepped up: Nicole Celestine, Luke Keteleers, Amr Ziko, Peter Tullett, Ken Hoye, CAC debutants; Carl Paxman, Jan & Dominic Barnard.

Filling all events is key to success, so numbers competing, especially V60+ is crucial

(rules allow older athletes to perform in younger age group, but not visa versa ).
