Twelve of our members took part in the England championships for under 15 and 17's at Birmingham over the bank holiday Saturday and Sunday. No winners but hey - it`s a national event and three second places was a great achievement. It was the jumping events which brought these medals, the under 15 boys high jump saw Charlie Pyner`s 1.73m put him onto the rostrum whilst Amy Pugsley with 1.58m also had this honour in the under 15 girls event. Amy also placed fifth in the triple jump with10.36m but it was to here that our third silver medal came as Amelie Scott recorded 11.28m, which not only gave her a podium spot it also broke her own club record which previously stood at 11.11m. Amelie also contested the long jump placing 7th with 5.33m.Outside the medals Bronson Hearn-Smith after no long jump competition since June finished 5th with 5.75m. A hectic programme for Matilda Hewitt going for all four throwing events. In the shot putt 12.07m placed her 5th - the discus also saw her 5th whilst this event gave Lily Frost a PB. Matilda's other events saw 32.85m in the javelin for 6th spot and in the hammer throw 36.23m gave her a PB. Other under 15`s were in the hurdles. Harry Lee with 11.87s for a PB placed second in his heat to qualify for the final in which he finished 6th with 11,96s Also in this event Marcus Fazackerley timed at 12.53s, In the girls event Milana Thorpe was 4th in the heats with 11.87s. WHOA. SOUTHERN LEAGUE CHAMPIONS.

We have heard nothing of our senior teams this season since our previous correspondent resigned - and yet so much has been going on via the National League where unfortunately we have been relegated, whilst three wins from four in the Southern showed more consistency than our more illustrious opponents.

The women`s events which were covered mainly by juniors and under 17s picked up an amazing twenty first places. Kissiwaa Mensah and Nneka Okoh claimed double success in the 100 and 200 whilst Nneka with Grace Tremelling took the long jump applauds. The high jump also gave us a full points tally through Zion Ateba and Rosie Townley, Zion 400 hurdles and Rosie 100 hurdles Molly Drane ran a PB in the steeplechase behind Hannah Bolton who put in a seasons best both having run the 800 metres earlier. Sienna Shipton achieved a PB when winning the 400m `B` race. Teagan Rayner also put in a seasons best to win the 1500 metres and there was another seasons best from Kiera Atkinson in the 5k event. In the throws Jessica and Maegan Hopkins took full points from the shot putt and discus. Jessica's shot putt effort of 14.08m was deemed to be best the performance from all the women's events. The relays at the end of the day saw CAC taking the 4 x 100 and 2nd in the 4 x 400m There were fewer wins amongst the men with a number of regular members missing through holidays and other commitments, Oneyeka Okoh won the 400 and in placing second in the 200m put in a PB. Joseph Grange in winning the steeplechase recorded a PB and had a season best in the 1500m for third place. Bradley Reed and Kristian Brown took the honours in the 110m hurdles. In the 800m Joseph Perry (3rd) and Gregory Martin (1st B string) both achieved personal best times. In the high jump Thomas Hewes had a seasons best of 2.10m which apart from a win claimed best best male performance of the day, for the second time this season. From a Chelmsford view point perhaps they may consider Luke Keteleers as there man of the match as he took part in no fewer than seven events to fill in for absent colleagues.

It is difficult to give a good account of a meeting when having only Power of 10 and the Leagues website for information. One hopes that a volunteer will come forward to take this on next season.

A number of our athletes attended the South of England Championships held at the Lee Valley Stadium with eight coming home with medals. The five star performance came from Jacob Hurrell for after placing third in his heat of the 1500 metres (4m 09.83s) provided our only gold during the two days of competition by taking the title with nearest opponent almost four seconds down in his wake as he set a time of 3m 59.92s for a new club record. The old record was held by John Archer dating back to 1962 which before the metric distances were adopted for UK athletics and thus the record had been set in a mile race and converted. Middle distance events also brought two other medals. Fred Ferman placed second in the under 13`s 800 metres in 2m 19.67s and Ezra Harrold took the bronze medal in the girls under 15 age group with 4m 39.49s in the 1500m. Other medals were gained via the track, throws and jump events. Sophie Catchpole having placed fourth in the 80mhurdles (12.46s) then proceeded to the 300m hurdles with 46.38s claimed third place. Sam Steadman meanwhile went for the 300m flat event and with 37.12s was another bronze medallist. Matilda Hewitt has been in great form during the season in the shot and hammer events but was unable to give of her best here placing 4th and 5th respectively but then took third place with the javelin with a pb of 33.16m. At the high jump Charlie Pyner was another below his best but with 1.75m still took third place in the under 15 boys class. Back to the track and Milana Thorpe was third in the under 15`s 75m hurdles with 11.97s after winning her heat in 11.85s. Worthy of note are athletes achieving personal bests, Harry Lee and Daniel Brown in the under 15 long jump, Thomas Carter and Joshua Eida from the 1500 metres, Ava King under 13`s 800 metres and Madison Poulter with the javelin.
