It was weather they say only fit for ducks but perhaps even they would have `ducked` this one out so it

was some what surprising that three club records should come about with such conditions. Just maybe the athletes were in a hurry to get back to the dressing room at Melbourne Park.

Of course Sam Steadman has shown great form this season and joined by Marcus Fazackerley, Jakub Skamla and Daniel Brown they improved on the 4 x 300 time set in 2015 as they clocked 2m 37.82s but behind a strong Havering team. Two 3 x 800 records with winning places , the under 15 girls via Lottie Wilkin, Hetty Harrison and Ezra Harrold clocking 7m 12.04s and the under 17 men with Jacob Hurrell, William Sweeney and Archie Durham who took 17 seconds off the old record with there 6m 13.92s Further gold medal performances came from the under 15boys (46.73s) and under 17 men (44.47s) in the 4 100mand the under 13 girls in the3 x 800 (7m 45.53s). Silver medals for the under 13 boys in the 4 x 100 (54.96s), the under 17 men 4 x 400 (3m 43.78s), the under 15girls 4 x 300 (3m 01.14s), under 15 boys 3 x 800 (6m 49.30s) and the under 17 women 3 x 800 (7m 56.80s). Add in three third placings, under 15 girls 4 x100, under 17 women 4 x 400 and the under 13boys 3 x 800 it was a good tally from the 16 events on the programme.

The English Schools Cup Championship featuring the top schools athletic teams was staged at Melbourne Park Stadium and CAC had seven members representing their schools, oddly none of which were from Chelmsford.

Star performance by an Essex athlete came from our Ezra Harrold whose win in the 1500 metres in 4m 43.0s for the Fitzwimarc School earned her the highest point score in the junior girls whilst also helping the Fitzwimarc School to third team place. Also for Fitwimarc in the intermediate age group Charlie Pyner ran 12.3s in the 100 metres and in the high jump cleared 1.77m whilst Niamh Roberts ran the 1500m and achieved a personal best of 5m 10.1s. For Brentwood School Skye Lake contested the 100m (13.6s) and high jump (1.50m) Elizabeth MacCullum ran 26.7s for the 200metres and reached 4.23m in the long jump whilst Georgia Sawyer contested the javelin (25.80m). Finally Kwasi Prakah-Asante with 12.7s for the100m and the triple jump 12.82m played a leading spot in Westcllffe Schools second team place

Four days after her success in the schools meet Ezra se a PB of 2m 17.03s for the 800m in the Watford open

These championships, staged on the 24th June at Cambridge have slipt the net and not been reported upon.

They did however bring many medals to CAC members plus personal best performances. No fewer than 14 title winners plus seven runners up and three bronze medallists - an excellent haul.
