A haul of five golds, two silver and one bronze medals for our members at this prestigious meeting staged at Walton on Thames. Our star has to be Kissiwaa Mensah as she took the 200 metre title for under 20's on day one with 24.65s then returned the following day to win the 400 metres with a personal best of 56.47 seconds. There were other outstanding performances from our under 20-year athletes with Onyeka Okoh lifting the 400 hurdles title with 52.99s, Will Steadman the 800 with 1min 56.80s and Maegan Hopkins the shot putt with a personal best of 13.60m. Maegan also contested the discus placing fourth with 35.75m. In the senior ranks sister Jess with 13.78m in the shot placed second also competing in the discus where 37.64m placed 8th. Back to the track and Kiera Atkinson (above) with 18m 56.19s claimed our other silver medal whilst amongst the senior ranks Bradley Reed took bronze in the 110m hurdles.

Just outside the medals Jack Hughes with a PB of 4.10m was 4th in the pole vault.

Other members there were Holly Watson - 800m 2m 18.79s finishing 5th, Grace Tremelling - long jump 4.82m and Nneka Okoh just out of the under 17 age group and just missing out on the final of the 200m with 4th in her heat with 26.70s.

The England multi events championship found Kristian Brown as the only Chelmsford competitor making the journey to Manchester for the two-day event. The first days events were the 100 metres and a time of 11.24 seconds for 808 points, followed by long jump 6.71 metres (746), shot putt 12.40m,(631), high jump 1.72m(668) and 400metres 49.81s.(823) - thus given s fist day`s score of 3568 points and well in contention for a medal. Onto day two and the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.47s and 794 points and the discus with a throw 38.74m (639) and still in a challenging position. Alas the next event the pole vault put dampers on this for no height was obtained. Despite being the leading javelin thrower with 60.42 (744) and 1500 metres in 4m 26.24s (769) the leeway could not be made up although with a final score of 6514 points still achieved a personal best and ninth position. Had Kristian cleared 3.50m which he has cleared that score could have been 6996 for 4th spot.

The Essex Schools multi events championships staged at the Brentwood School track provided Chelmsford with one winner, a second a third and fourth from the large

entries.

The under 17 category, Edward Hughes took first place with 2734 points with performances of 400m 53.4s, hurdles 13.9s., long jump 5.94m., shot putt 9.07m. and javelin 26.73m. Also in this event Stephen Adesina efforts were 61.0s, 16.1s, 6.00m, 11.37m and 25.75m. for a score of 2354 for 3rd place. In the same age group in the girls Sophie Catchpole second place of 2686 points came from the 200m of 27.2s, hurdles 12.2s, long jump 4.72m, shot 7.97 and javelin 22.55m

Both the under 15 girls and boys found four of our members competing. In the former Amelie Scott placed third with 2686 points – 800m 2m 53.3s, hurdles 12.0s, high jump 1.35m, long jump 5.07, shot putt 9.95, Alicja Yalaju placed 5th from performances of 2m38.9s, 13.2s, 1.45m, 4.26m. and 7.63m. Chelsea Clarke finished 10th with 2226 points and Katie Case 11th with 2212 points. Our leading under 15 boy was Arsenii Handzi as he finished 4th with 2356 points from 800m 2m24.7s, hurdles 13.4s, high jump 1.65m, long jump 5.27m. and shot 6.34m. Marcus Fazackerley finishe 11th with 1997 points, Charlie Pyner 13th with 1955 and Harry Lee 19th with 1797 points.
