Twelve of our members took part in the England championships for under 15 and 17's at Birmingham over the bank holiday Saturday and Sunday. No winners but hey - it`s a national event and three second places was a great achievement. It was the jumping events which brought these medals, the under 15 boys high jump saw Charlie Pyner`s 1.73m put him onto the rostrum whilst Amy Pugsley with 1.58m also had this honour in the under 15 girls event. Amy also placed fifth in the triple jump with10.36m but it was to here that our third silver medal came as Amelie Scott recorded 11.28m, which not only gave her a podium spot it also broke her own club record which previously stood at 11.11m. Amelie also contested the long jump placing 7th with 5.33m.Outside the medals Bronson Hearn-Smith after no long jump competition since June finished 5th with 5.75m. A hectic programme for Matilda Hewitt going for all four throwing events. In the shot putt 12.07m placed her 5th - the discus also saw her 5th whilst this event gave Lily Frost a PB. Matilda's other events saw 32.85m in the javelin for 6th spot and in the hammer throw 36.23m gave her a PB. Other under 15`s were in the hurdles. Harry Lee with 11.87s for a PB placed second in his heat to qualify for the final in which he finished 6th with 11,96s Also in this event Marcus Fazackerley timed at 12.53s, In the girls event Milana Thorpe was 4th in the heats with 11.87s. Sophie Catchpole contested both the 80 and 300m hurdles events recording a PB of 12.05s in the former and 46.64s in the longer event, Sam Wright also doubled up placing 5th in the final of the 100m hurdles in 13.39s after his heat in 13.51s. Sam's other event brought him a 4th place in the high jump.
